Hello Race Fans ,
Sponsors and Racing Partners.
Well the 2010 season has come to a close, another season come
and gon , all too soon it seems.
Once again the Mac's Motorsports/Universal Cycle /Draggin Jeans
Drag Bike Team, Greg (BentValve) Westling and "Dangerous" Don
Fergin had a tremendous year with a full slate of race dates, a
load of traveling and heaps of fun. Again we ran 3 sanctions
(CMDRA first priority, MHDRA/NHRA 2nd and IHRA) racking up about
10,000 kms and 5 different tracks all in Western Canada.
This year the 2 "Bad Boys" campaigned 3 bikes in two classes of
the CMDRA which sure kept us busy both on and off the track.
Greg's new rocket was an eye opener from the beginning and a
huge learning curve, but we set goals and accomplished most.
Plus we again took on the added roles of Tech Director (Don) and
Race School Instructor (Greg) for the CMDRA. Very satisfying to
give the sport a leg up with our experience! |

Says Don:
I got off to a great start this year , right where I left off
last year riding my "Timex" bike with a Win in Ashcroft at the
season opener , It was so good to ride a bike that has become
one the most consistent entries at any event. This bike gets
killer reaction times and runs the number ! It takes a licking
and keeps on ticking , therefore the "Timex" handle!
I held the CMDRA Superbike points lead after Ashcroft and kept
it for most of the season , losing it briefly for one event,
finishing with the #1 Plate and the CMDRA Superbike
Championship! Coming into the last race only the 2nd place rider
could catch me for the #1 plate. As fate would have it we got
paired in the 1st round and we managed to eliminate any chance
of losing the Championship, a job well done . All was not over
though as I had a " get off " in the next round against my team
mate Greg resulting in a dislocated right shoulder , left pinkie
and a trip to the Hospital. My season was really over now.
Overlapping Races and scheduling conflicts with CMDRA and MHDRA
prevented a better showing in the Hat where I still finished 5th
in points after the season final in Edmonton running a limited
schedule .
At the end of it all we had, 1- #1 Qualifier , 1- #2 Qualifier,
2- Wins (Ashcroft & Medicine Hat) , 2 runner ups in the Hat and
just missed a Wally , red lighting in the final with a -.002
light but running bang on the Dial in at the NHRA National Open
in the Hat ! Oh Well, live by the sword , die by the sword I
say!
We'll be ready for next season but the healing will take awhile,
A busy off season prepping old and new bikes for an assault and
defence of my #1 plate .
Dangerous Don Fergin - literally!
Says Greg:
Well, I have to start off with saying I had a lot of fun this
season running two bikes in two different classes . This 2010
season I ran my first year in the High stakes Pro Modified class
and accomplished what I set out to do . This is a heads up ,
first to the finish line class reserved for high horsepower
Turbo Charged, Nitrous, Gas, Alcohol burning (Any combination)
Metric based Bikes that see 6 second 200mph runs . I didn't
expect to light the world on fire my first season but I achieved
our goal of qualifying for every event and with my best outing ,
a 5th place qualifying position in a 16 bike field at the Rocky
Mtn Nationals in Edmonton and the second Ashcroft race. .
We are on one of the heaviest bikes (700 lbs) in the class and
have one of the smallest turbos and smallest displacement
(1260cc) making roughly 300 HP. The big dogs in this class make
500+ HP with some lighter weights. The end result was I finished
5th overall in the final points standings. Consistency and no
breakage were our strong suit this year in a class that sees
high attrition .
To top it off, at the season finally in Medicine Hat testing I
ran a personal best of 7.904 sec. and earlier this season I ran
a couple of 170 MPH passes.
The best part is Pro Mod got it got the old adrenalin pumping
again.
In Super Bike for the first time in quite awhile I finished out
of the top three (4th) but did manage to muster one semi final
appearance in the Hat and won the final event of the season in
Edmonton. This as always is a ultra competitive class where
killer lights and consistency wins races .
My goals for next season are to step it up a bit by putting the
Pro Mod bike on a diet and adding some extra HP , likely a small
nitrous shot to help spool the Turbo and maybe an increase in
the Displacement to run consistent high 7's . .
Also I want to get back on the podium in Super Bike.
Greg "Bent Valve" Westling
